  2. for wireless the best is WPA-2. It is the hardest to hack. Don't use WEP because that is easy to hack.
  3. The most common security options include WEP, WPA-PSK, and WPA2-PSK. WEP can be relatively easily cracked these days, whereas WPA2-PSK is the most secure and the one you should go for to secure your network.
  4. Theres a lot more than mentioned here, I'll go through em quickly: WEP (wired equivelant protocol) - uses a key shared by everyone (PSK - pairwise shared key I think...), anyone with the right key gets online, it comes in 2 sizes 64 bit and 128bit key, longer key = more secure. WPA (wifi protection alliance) they wernt happy with WEP so made their own security which uses a password, the passwords still shared but the way data is transmitted is completely different, its much more secure. WPA2, this is the same as WPA except it uses something called AES (advanced encryption system) which encrypts the password at a significanlty higher level (its still shared). The way data is sent is still slightly different though. WPA2 with RADIUS - RADIUS or remote access dial in user system is another password on top of WPA it is by far the most secure way to transmit data as 2 passwords are needed, RADIUS is unique to each person and is not shared. You need a server for RADIUS and there are different forms of it LEAP (lightweight encryption authentication protocol) PEAP (forgot this one) and some other WPA2 with LEAP is common in more secure environments. If you care at all WPA and WPA2 can be cracked in the same ammount of time (roughly 2 days without monitoring traffic) WEP requires less than 15 minutes with the right tools and requires constant monitoring.
