What is the best wireless internet solution to using a cellphone and laptop while traveling around the country

I use a verizon usb cable now but it is so slow and the coverage in not that great. If I am on extended service I can't use the laptop. And at 60 dollars a month that hurts when you don't even get to use it because I am not along an interstate. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

1. Verizon likes to post a lot of false information about their data services. The fact is their coverage isn't all that great. Switch to Cingular and get a 3G high speed data card, like the Option GTMax, or get a 3G phone like the LG CU500 and use it as a modem. Both will allow you to get download speeds of 200KB/s (That's kiloBYTES not BITS). Which is near broadband speed. but this only works in 3G areas. In non 3G areas you can get about 15-20KB/s which is about 2.5x dialup speed.
